An addendum to Dewey is the life of the librarian who loved him. No book has ever had that effect on my emotions. The death scene with Dewey was so real to me. Even though it has been years since death I still can imagine him purring in my ear and the little warm lump sleeping on my waist at night. Red purred loudly continually and slept on top of me every night. After that we kept Charlie away from Red. Our black greyhound, Charlie, had pulled all of Red's hair from his rear and Red never moved. One day I came home from work and found Red frozen on the floor mat in front of the kitchen sink. I lost a red long haired cat many years ago, like Dewey he waited for me before he died, his name was Red and he was only 5 pounds full grown and his place was on my left shoulder to avoid our-racing adopted ex greyhounds who viewed him as prey. I liked the Dewey shoulder carry and also the extreme loss experienced when he died Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? Which character – as performed by Susan McInerny – was your favorite? What was one of the most memorable moments of Dewey? I rarely read fiction these days unless it is a truly special book.Where does Dewey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? I read all of Torey Hayden’s books about abused children and many other non-fiction writers. I love George Orwell, Frederick Feikema, and the Harry Potter series for fiction. In 1987, I was named Director of Spencer Public Library and I served in that position for 25 and ½ years. In 1982, I returned to Spencer, Iowa to begin working at the public library. I have a bachelor’s degree from Mankato State and a master’s from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. I graduated from Hartley Iowa High School and moved to Mankato, Minnesota where I worked, married, had a daughter and went to college.
